Lon felt a new distance between his brother and him since his father had died. He could only tell if his brother was a true friend with his ear, which he used a lot these days.
Whenever they met on the street it was like a parley. So Lon had to use his two good ears and keep from any... unwanted, cataclysmic, meetings between his brother and himself.
Lon, thankfully, arrived at home before his brother out of breath but alive and unhurt. He decided to keep his brother in a good mood by making dinner. He ransacked the house to find food to make their favorite: Onions roasted in garlic milksauce, on top of chicken grass. He only knew how to make this one meal and he considered it his greatest achievement since he made his first looking glass...
But back to that later...
Chicken grass was the only part of the chicken that they could afford, the offal. Making it usually took a person three hours unless it was thrown straight into the fire. Which is exactly what Lon did. His brother arrived some minutes later. Drunk. As soon as Lon took out the chicken grass from the fire with his tongs he realized that he had waited to long. The chicken grass came out as black as coal. His brother Longa looked at it and suddenly the fray that Lon had so carefully avoided was upon him.
"You stupid $%@$&%*#$%@$$%@$&%*#$%@$ ! You just waisted the last pieces of Chicken grass we had! Get out! GET OUT!" He lambasted Lon and then kicked him out the door.
Lon was used to being kicked out of his house and he was also used to his brothers diatribe. It usually happened to him on days that his brother got drunk. Now he would have to eschew his house until his brother came to get him.
He decided to go to Igel's house.
Lon and Igel had a camaraderie that extended since their birth. they had played in the same enclosure and had discovered (together of course) how to open the enclosure and reach the outside world.
He reached their house before dark and went in to play with Igel. Little did he know that a major force that only he could defeat was at that moment knocking on the door to his brother's and his house.
