Daniel's homework: Wendy Cope's Bloody Men (as in the British term)<body>

(speak this out loud with a British accent)

Wendy Cope's: Bloody Men (as in the British term)

When I looked through the poetry packet this poem just stuck out in my eye:

Bloody men are like bloody buses-
You wait for about a year
And as soon as one approaches your stop
Two or three others appear

You look at them flashing their indicators
Offering you a ride
You're trying to read the destinations,
you haven't much time to decide.

If you make a mistake, there is no turning back.
Jump off, and you'll stand there and gaze
While the cars and the taxi's and lorries go by
And the minutes, the hours, the days.

I really liked this Poem by Wendy Cope, because the poem had a sort of slight rhythm to it, without the sense of any pattern. This kind of poetry is really hard to write because you must be able to keep a pattern in your head while not following it with your hands...

In Bloody Men, the author, Wendy Cope, is trying to find a way of describing that men can be so terrible and that you should stay away from them... But it also has a sort of controversial ( :-) ) meaning to it though. When she talks about the cars, taxis, and lorries, I think that she is talking about how men can be good because if you don't have one then it takes forever to find one that will be perfect for you. When you find one, you actually find several and it is hard to choose, but you must. Then, when you"Jump off, and you'll stand there and gaze" I think that Wendy means to say here that if you leave a man then you will just be shocked and stand there and watch the other men (other motorvehicles. e.g. car, truck, lorry) pass you right by.

In the end Wendy's point is get the correct guy and stick with him forever.

(Oh, and the word Men (in the title Bloody Men) can be exchanged with the word Women (the title would change to Bloody Women) if necessary.)

Here is my FREE-verse poem:

One
One single life
One life for ideas to grow............................. A single journey to take
One journey from start.....................................to finish.
One hope.
One Dream.
To live Life!
So do it!
Here is another FREE-verse Poem:
Winter
In the mountains where flowers sleep
and snow covers the ridges and peaks
where the sparkling blue lake is glazed over with ice
protected from freezing by a crackling wood fire
in a cozy cabin fit for two
In the mountains where white Hares leap
and wandering rivers are finally asleep
when the only sound heard is a footstep near mine
and the call of the last bird fades in the wind
In the mountains where only evergreens are green
and the only colors are a wonderful mix of pale blues
in this winter wonderland until spring began
we'd be standing hand in hand.
